Coach Dennis Daly started fencing foil and epee in 1977 at “Tuesday Night Fencing” at the Centereach Pool. He trailed his older brother, Richard, for the Centereach High School Fencing team, which was coached by Bob Nelson.
Coach Dennis Daly started his coaching career at Garden City High School as the head coach (1989 – 2003) with a foil only co-ed team. Within his ten years coaching at Garden City, he was able to have a major impact on other fencing programs outside of the high school, implementing eight women fencing teams across Long Island. He was also a major proponent for adding two of the three weapons: Epee and Sabre, as well as, the formation of the Long Island Championship. At Garden City, Daly led his team to 4 County Championships & League Titles. He has coached over 20 Nassau County finalists, over 10 Nassau County Champions, a number of 1st Team All Long Island and 1st Team All Long Island Honorable Mention, as well as All County and All League Fencers.
Adult Education: Coach Dennis Daly taught classes in Adult Ed while coaching at Garden City and Half Hollow Hills.
In 2006 Coach Dennis Daly established the Half Hollow Hills High School Men’s & Women’s Fencing Team to benefit two of his private students and help grow the sport of fencing in Suffolk County. In nine short years, the Hills Fencing Team has become a driving force in Suffolk County Fencing. Coach Dennis Daly has led a number of 1st Team All Long Island and 1st Team All Long Island Honorable Mention, All County and All League Fencers.
Coach the Coach: As a result of Coach Dennis Daly devoting much of his time to growing the sport of fencing on Long Island, many of his former athletes have coached, or are coaching at the high school level in Sections 8 and 11. In addition to the high school level, Coach Daly has trained and developed numerous fencing coaches at the club level as well.
Accolades: Coach Dennis Daly founded the Fencing Center of Long Island, along with Coach Bruce Gillman. Daly spent 3 years running the club and coaching Epee before moving onto Long Island Swordsman in East Williston. Coach Daly coached epee, foil, and sabre at Swordsman for several years. Dennis Daly was the first Epee Coach at IFA.
Hills Fencing Institute (H3) – H3 is a nonprofit fencing club established by Dennis Daly in 2006. One of the core values of H3 is to provide scholarships to athletes.

County Champs: Coach Dennis Daly has coached multiple County Champs (Epee & Foil) in both Section VIII and XI.
Senior Classic: Coach Daly was the driving force in developing and Implementing Section VIII vs Section XI Senior Classic.
Universities and Colleges: over 36 years of coaching has allowed Coach Dennis Daly to see his athletes go off to a number of top tier universities and colleges, including: Miami University, Boston College, Notre Dame University, Rutgers University, Penn State, University of Pennsylvania, Harvard, MIT, University of Michigan, Cornel University, Sacred Heart University, Tuffs University, Brown University, Duke University, NYU, Lafayette, Vassar, UNC, John Hopkins University, Stony Brook University, Caltech University, Air Force Academy, St John’s university, and Ohio State.
