Coach Daly started fencing foil and epee in 1977 at “Tuesday Night Fencing” at the Centereach Pool. He trailed his three older brothers—Michael, Philip and Richard—for the Centereach High Fencing team, which was coached by Bob Nelson. After graduating high school, Coach Daly studied both Art Design and Techniques and Aspects of Coaching at Adelphi University (1983-1987).

Daly started his coaching career at Garden City High School as the head coach (1989 – 2003) with a foil only co-ed team. In his ten years coaching in Garden City, he was able to have a major impact on other fencing programs outside of the high school, implementing eight women fencing teams across Long Island. He also was a major proponent for the formation of the Long Island Championship. At Garden City, Daly led his team to four County Championships & League Titles. He has coached 16 County finalists, five County Champions, a number of 1st Team All Long Island and 1st Team All Long Island Honorable Mention, as well as All County and All League Fencers.

In 2006 Coach Daly created the Haft Hollow Hills High School Men’s & Women’s Fencing Team, with help from two of his private students. In nine short years, the Hills Fencing Team has become a driving force in Suffolk County Fencing. Coach Daly has led a number of 1st Team All Long Island and 1st Team All Long Island Honorable Mention, All County and All League Fencers.

Coach the Coach: 7 former athletes of Coach Daly have or are coaching at the high school level in Section 8.

Clubs: Coach Daly has coached at Fencing Center of Long Island (created), Long Island Swordsman, Hills Fencing Institute (created).

High School: Coach Daly has trained athletes from Garden City, Haft Hollow Hills, Commack, Brentwood, Walt Whitman, Centereach, New Field, Huntington, Jericho, Wheatley, Great Neck South, Great Neck North, Syosset, Hauppauge, Smithtown, Northport, Oyster Bay and Floral Park.

County Champs: Coach Daly has coached multiple County Champs (Epee & Foil) in both Section VII and XI.

Senior Classic: Coach Daly was the driving force to developed and Implemented Section VII vs Section XI Senior Classic.

Section VII & XI: Coach Daly continues to post a winning record in both Sections for his high school team.

Universities and Colleges: 26 years of coaching has allowed Coach Daly to see his athletes go off to a number of top tier universities and colleges, including: Miami University, Boston College, Notre Dame University, Rutgers University, Penn State, University of Pennsylvania, Harvard, MIT, University of Michigan, Cornel University, Sacred Heart University, Tuffs University, Brown University, Duke University, NYU, Lafayette, Vassar, UNC, John Hopkins University, Stony Brook University, Caltech University, Air Force Academy, St Johns university, and Ohio State.

Kevin Gordon

Long Island fencing coach

 Coaching since 2002, Coach Gordon started as an assistant with Centereach HS. After 5 years as an assistant, he moved up to be the Boys Coach at Centereach for 2 years before moving to Half Hollow Hills to help forge the new fencing program there. Additionally, in 2009 he helped in the development of the recently created Hills Fencing Institute.
Coach Gordon currently coaches the Boys Team at Half Hollow Hills and is a foil and epee coach at Hills Fencing institute.
